Isn't this true for many of us?

Edit: incorporated change suggested by Carrol and lemurofdoom (thanks guys, I agree it does look better)

And what's even sicker Jon is that you have another camera to take this excellent shot!!

Yes, but the picture might have been better if you could somehow position a mirror so you can get a picture of yourself taking this picture. How's that for a challenge?

Mike - I sold my XT to get the 40D and realized that even though I am absolutely in love with my 40D, it's nice to have a small/light camera to toss in a bag when the main focus isn't taking pictures. I got a bargain I couldn't refuse for a new D40 with the 18-55 and 55-200 VR and had to get it. As if camera names weren't confusing enough, now I have a 40D and D40. Both cameras are excellent for their intended purposes. Even though some may consider it sacrilege to shoot with both a Canon and a Nikon.

Mark - The reason I take the pictures is so that I don't have to be in the pictures.

Mark - Thanks for the compliment. There's no harm in dreaming. It took a while before I could save up to get it all and when I could actually afford it, I was so busy with work that I hardly have the time to use and enjoy it.

Ha ha! Very funny. I like the idea of taking pictures and never being in the photo. Our scrapbooks reflect that. There are no pictures of ME. I technically don't exist.

I hear ya there Jon. I myself came from a Canon D60 and 10D to a Nikon D80 and a compact Canon S500 when I'm out on the quad. Both companies produce top quality gear. I feel that I can now only ask more of myself. Well ok, and a couple more lenses.

Great shot! Great lighting!
One picky suggestion: The crop seems a tad tight to the right of the flash. I'd add just a bit of white space (same as on the left of the photo.)
Up to you. Again, great entry!

This is a beautifully crafted studio shot. I almost looks like an advertisement for Canon

Clearly many of us are experiencing a similar obession; some more, some less.

Later,
Chad

I love it. I agree the change is better. Gosh I need to start giving studio work a try. I never have

Any chance you would be willing to show us a picture of your setup? Just interested in how you set the whole shot up

Hi,

Really nice shot of your equipment. I like the lighting and the arrangement a lot, and I can relate as this is my personal obsession these days. I have cameras and lens purchases planned for six years in the future. How sick is that. Good luck this week,

Steve S.

I didn’t see the first shot but this one looks great, just like a very nice advertisement studio shot. And yes, true for ALL of us regardless of brand…

Thank you all for the kind words. It really means a lot coming from such a talented bunch.

Kevin, I have attached a picture of the setup below. I re-set this all up to grab the snapshot so it might not be exactly as it was the day I took the picture, but you'll get the basic idea.

Setup: Equipment placed on my frosted glass desk in my spare bedroom/office. I had to clean off my mess of papers first though! One Vivitar 285HV firing down/back to blow out the back wall and the area where the table meets the wall. Another 285HV on the floor firing straight up underneath the setup to blow out the tabletop. A reflector to add a little bounced light and also eliminate some distracting reflections that I saw in the front element of the lens mounted on the camera. Camera handheld (1/500 f/9 I believe) and flashes fired remotely via cheap ebay triggers.

I'm really just venturing into lighting equipment and off-camera lighting. Up until about a month or so ago, I shot primarily with available light. I don't have much experience, but hope that helps to show you what you were looking for. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Gorgeous shot and perfect concept, and boy can I relate to the obsession. Some women want diamonds, I want more "L" glass. Great execution; love the lighting from beneath.
