Well, it has finally happened to me... my D2H had a stuck meter all day yesterday (no Turkey day pics ). The funny thing is that it was working OK this morning?
Anyway, my question for all of you is about shipping the product back (I called the Sevice Support Center, but they are closed today). Actually, 3 questions:
(1) The recording on the Nikon Service Support Center line said *NOT* to ship your product back in its original package? Is that true? Seems like the easiest way to get it packed securely.
(2) Do you ship back the battery too? Or is it literally just the body.
(3) I know that I can expedite my shipping out (duh), but us there anyway to have Nikon expedite the shipping back? I have a trip to the Rio Grande Valley coming up real soon now, and I would hate to be without my camera (I know, I know, buy a backup... one day).
Mine died at the beginning of this month. I called and talked to someone who also said not to send it back in the original packaging, so I just put it in a bag, then in bubble wrap, then in a box with peanuts. I didn't send the battery with mine. I sent mine UPS 2nd day, and it came back UPS next day, but it was in the shop for a while in between. I sent it on a Monday and it came back Friday of the next week, I think. They say they try to do the repair within 5 working days of when they receive the camera.

Overkill, too much for them to keep in the plastic boxes they use for work assignments.

They need the body to repair the bad board with a trace that went bad.

I got mine there in two days using USPS priority mail with signature, took it direct to Tampa airport which is a hub on Sat and it was in Melville NY on Monday. Lucked out, It got to me faster than the claim papers did.
They send it back fast no need to expedite. Fedex saver, usually two day...
Thanks in advance...

You are welcome........
Al
I just got mine back from Nikon. (1) I did ship in my original box popcorned in a larger box/.I recieved it back in pretty much the same way/Original box in a larger box. (2) I shipped mine with the battery in it/When Nikon sent my letter notifying me that they had received they listed eveything. My cam still had the strap on/They are very good about the way they handle service. (3) They had my 2H back in my hands in 8 days.
* Sent the camera via Fedex overnight on a Monday to Nikon
* Camera shipped in original box, with battery and no other accessories in it
* The following Monday they told me it would arrive back to me Tuesday
* Actually arrived later that day (Monday) -- missing 1/2 of the inner packing
of the original box, and missing the remote port cover.
I've asked Nikon to replace the remote port cover. I'd suggest removing that item before sending the camera to Nikon. You know how those little buggers tend to get lost.
Nikion absolutely tells you NOT to send it back in the original packaging. It's listed on their site where it gives information on returning items for repair.
My local camera store told me to bring the camera in minus the battery and strap and they did the packing and shipping for me. They called me up one week later and the cam was fixed, cleaned, and the firmware updated. I did not regret buying from the local camera store; they gave us pretty good support.
Following up on my earlier reply to this post....I received a reply from Nikon regarding my missing items (1/2 of the box inner packing, and the remote port cap).
Nikon is mailing me a replacement cap, and the apologized for losing mine.
They also said they can't/won't replace the inner packaging of the box. I know this may seem nitpicky to many, but I am meticulous about my gear and I always save boxes and packing because I tend to re-sell alot of my equipment. Nikon said that the do NOT want cameras shipped to them in the original box, they prefer generic packaging that they don't have to be responsible for.
So there you have it. Don't use the original box. And as i mentioned before, take off the little tiny caps so they don't get lost.
