I own two DSLR's - a Nikon D2x which supports i-TTL and a Fuji S3 which does not (it supports D-TTL).

When using the S3, I could put an SB-800 on my camera and use an SB-26 as an optical slave - I would put the S3/SB-800 combo in AA mode and set the SB-26 to trigger from the S3/SB-800. Of course, I would have to manually tweak the flash settings to get the exposure "right".

What I am trying to find out is if I can get an SB-800 to trigger optically from another SB-800 on my S3. Of course, I know I won't have i-TTL, however, sometimes when I use my S3 I need some extra light.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be welcome.

The SB800 will work fine as a slave, set it to SU4? mode and be sure the master flash is not doing any pre-flashes

I remember reading that it could do a dumb slave mode.

I made a thred a few days ago being pissed about my SB-600 not being able to do this.

But anyways, if you can't do it....there are always peanut slaves that are relatively inexpensively obtained

Just tested it out... put the remote SB-800 in SU4 mode and make sure the master flash does not do a pre-flash -- works like a charm.
