Re: Zeiss Lens Photos and Discussion (see also ZE/ZF/ZM thread)
Beautiful shots everyone,
Due to the fear of \'shaving off \' the rear barrel it took a long pondering. Finally I bit the bullet and converted my old CY50/1.4 to F mount with Leitax. Conversion went sort of ok. Stupidly, I messed up one screw in unscrewing process, ended up using a drill to get rid of it. After that, all went just fine. Despite the Leitax site\'s warning, my particular copy did not have any issue with hitting the mirror at infinity. I am very grateful as there was not much of metal to shave off from this particular lens. New Leitax mount now has indents for f-stops for the little ball bearing to click, which is immensely better than the no-feedback from previous version. I might order an extra leitax mount to replace old mount on CY28.
Now onto 50/1.4 It is quite interesting, although I have owned this lens for so long, I only used it for relatively short period on Aria, and it was a film camera. I didn\'t quite feel I knew the lens at all. Lens characteristics is everything that everyone says. Strong haze wide open with high contrast scene, goes away closed down. Longer distance makes it less noticeable, and may be stronger in the situation than closeups. blah blah, we all know the story. So far, I love this lens.
One very strange thing I am experiencing with D700 is metering. Wide open, it tends to overexpose. As I close down aperture, the camera begins to underexpose for each f-stop. By f 5.6 it gets rather dark, and by f16, you can\'t see a thing. Clearly, metering is not working. I am not quite sure what this means, and need to observe the behavior much more, however, it is strong enough that even I noticed it. For now, the best way seems to be, find the best exposure wide open( this may not be true ), and manually adjust f-stop and shutter speed. Anyway, ehough with my long winded story.
