Didnt see that many complain about the 1Ds2 (and other 1D bodies) that \'made do\' with 45-point autofocus with \'only\' 7 cross-type sensors.
Infact more complained about the 1D3 system and its 19 cross points
also the 1D4 makes do with those 19 cross points as well
if a single axis point picks up the contrast well enough then it should focus fine. If all the points were single axis one way it would struggle to AF on a target where the lines went in the same direction but would be just as good as all cross type if the lines ran in the opposite axis
The 1D4 has 39 cross type points
