Question for Nikon: Is it really that hard for you to make a camera body without an EVF (ZR, Z30, ...) but with the option to attach an external viewfinder to the hot shoe? The Canon EOS M3, which I used for a couple of years, had this option (EVF-DC1, with 90° upward tilt), as do some Leica models. You can carry an external viewfinder in your pocket and use it when you don’t want to use the camera like a smartphone, especially on sunny days.
Nikon already did this, with its Nikon 1 system cameras. The Nikon 1 V3 had an add-on electronic viewfinder, with electronic connections. At least one you-tuber has cited this, to support his belief that Nikon will repeat this, with the ZR. There ARE plenty of electronic contacts, inside the ZR’s flash shoe, much more than the familiar flash contacts.
Edited to add: The link is for the product page, for the Nikon 1 V3. The you-tuber I mentioned was Steve Irwin, if I remember correctly.
Edited again, to add: Leica and Olympus have also manufactured add-on EVFs, to be inserted into flash shoes with more than the traditional number of electronic contacts. Leica still does so, for the M11-series.
