@gdanmitchell@@ Dan, I completely forgot about the option of the newish Sony 16-25mm f/2.8 - it has great reviews for image quality throughout the range, fairly light at 409g, and the 2.8 aperture makes it more useful for astro compared to the f/4 options. I see it has a 67mm filter (same as my two Tamrons) so this is now on my radar.
I have always been intrigued by this lens as well, and IMO, this lens has just the right amount of overlap for landscape shooting with the 20-70 f/4 G. The make what I think is a really compelling 16-70 f/4 combo for landscapes. I say that having never used either, however, so take that with a huge grain of salt.
I see what you mean about an intriguing combo, Steve.

I see what you mean about an intriguing combo, Steve. I’m kind of infatuated with the Viltrox 135 lately and have been shooting it often. The affordability is great. I will say that it’s a big heavy beast and I think many folks would be put off by that. For me the weight/size are part of the charm and is not preventing me from taking it out a lot. I’m using it with the Sony battery grip attached to the A7R6 loaded with dual batteries, which of course makes my setup even heavier, but I’m loving the ergonomics with grip attached and battery life is just crazy good.
