The main attraction when staying at the Highland Base Kerlingarfjol is the thermal area Hverabon, a few miles drive up a steep road away. My wife and I lucked out having the rain hold off that day, but the trails were quite muddy from the previous days that made footing quite treacherous.
The puddles in these steps leading down to the thermal area were really tricky. Debbie went slow and careful - I really wished I had brought my trekking poles like she did. You wouldn't want to slip off either side, which could result in a long tumble!
Clouds and steam wafted, hiding, then revealing the hills.

One of our best days of the trip!
