Oregon and California

Here are a few of my shots from this summer — some in Oregon (color images) and others in California, taken during a hike above 10,000 feet in the White Mountains. I was searching for the ancient bristlecone pines and came across an incredible forest filled with these trees that have stood for millennia. Since the sky was empty and uninteresting, I decided to convert the images to black and white, which gave them a more timeless, Ansel Adams – like feel.

The color images feature Mount Hood and Panther Falls. The hike to the falls was short and easy, but the waterfall itself is breathtaking. If you wait until midday, the sun filters through the canopy of surrounding trees and illuminates the cascade — something you can see beautifully in the second image.
