Re: Official: Sony RX1R III Digital Camera announced!
Thank you for reupping this. The 35 2.0 Zeiss bolted to the Sony handheld is legendary for rendering. But I was particularly drawn to these comments from that thread about RX1R usability.

I think there are some aspects of the RX1 draw with which no interchangeable lens can catch-up, but, as a camera, I think it shares a lot in common with cell phones, in that the only joy is in the results, not in the usage.
+100
The RX1 is comparatively brutal to use nowadays (not because it's small), whereas the 35i is so just about perfect.

This is the unfortunate reality. Sony has completely resisted producing a small, excellent, fast focussing, beautiful boke 35mm f2. Always skirting around it with the Zeiss 35/2.8 or the Sony 40mm f2.5. Nice lenses, but always missing the holy grail. The GM 35/1.4 is superb, but, of course, large.
Sony's FE 35/1.8 is small, excellent and fast focusing. Bokeh is very good. I'd love to see a new version with an aperture ring.
I don't really think it's that small (for it's class) and the bokeh can get pretty bad/harsh at long distances...
A much better lens imo than the Sony 35 FE is the Sigma 35mm F2 DG Contemp. I series. A fraction shorter than the Sony but a much better performing lens with very good bokeh, an aperture ring and a very nice metal build quality and feel.
