For birding? No. I have both and tested them against each other. While the 300GM is an even better optic than the 600GM, that is only for the naked lenses, or when both have the same TC. The level of detail, the of center sharpness drop and CA of the 300GM&TC2 is closer to a good 200-600G than to the 600GM.
