The next Fuji APSC camera is X-T50

The problem I see with the film sim dial is that you will need to remember what recipe you have in each of the C slots and then the other slots change the film sims but not necessarily the "recipe" so the dial is a bit of a hybrid between a C dial and a film sim dial, which could be confusing. For those of us that use different recipes, I'd rather have seven (or more) C slots on the dial.
I'm not sure how many users change the film sims without changing the other recipe parameters, such as highlights, shadows, custom white balance and chrome FX, but just changing the film sim but not recipe is not that useful for my needs.
I'm also not sure that the current method of changing sims is that slow - either via the Q menu where you can actually give a custom name to the recipe, or by setting one of the customisable buttons and dial.
You nailed it. Some folks confused about (and equated) Fuji's color science, film sim, film sim recipe, and film sim dial. The film sim dial is mainly an advertising device showing newcomers "come, we have film sims." It remains to be seen how successful it is as an advertisement for newcomers, but in real use it's not practical even for users who are attracted by the easiness to configure colors on Fuji cameras. For that you use the "film sim recipes" rather than constantly shifting among the stock film sims, and the film sim dial limits the customized choices to 3. There are better ways to implement it, and without hurting core functions such as changing drive settings. Granted one can say the X-T50 is for novices and they don't use recipes but only sims, but the price tag is not entry level.
After using and observing Fuji for a decade, I'm not sure they do extensive useful marketing research; otherwise one cannot explain some of their idiosyncratic decisions. It appears they rely on consultation meetings with a bunch of X Photographers. Probably this film sim dial is another smart idea from one or two of those folks, maybe the same ones who proposed to have a film sim LCD on the back of the X-Pro3.
