I'm inclined to think that this might be great for outdoor sports. Let's say that I have $12K to spend, and I already have an A1 or A9 with the 70-200GMii and the 1.4TC.
My choices for upgrading would be the 400GM or the 300GM and buy another A1. Shoot the latter with the 1.4TC, and I do give up a stop of light, but I now have two bodies - one to cover 70-200 for close up action and another to shoot 420 downfield that I can drop to 630 if needed.
Seems a great tradeoff to me, and I'm contemplating doing just such a purchase this spring.
