In my tests at lower ISOs - especially if the image is well exposed and we don't crop much - noise reduction doesn't deliver much of a dramatic improvement.
Here are 2 conversions of a Sony A7R2 image shot in low light at ISO 2000. Side by side are Adobe Camera Raw and DxO.
As we reach ISO 2000 and beyond, the difference becomes evident. The DxO conversion process somehow manages to decrease noise without any loss of detail.
