Delicate Arch and Fresh Snow on La Sal Mountains

I was headed into Utah's La Sal range for a day of winter photography in January until a snowstorm turned me back. The area was socked in by clouds but the weather satellite animation showed potential clearing right around sunset, so I switched plans and hiked to Delicate Arch.

It’s a wondrous location that I have been avoiding returning to the last 10 years due to crazy crowds, but this day was not bad and everyone there was respectful. The snowstorm hung over the horizon and there was no view until half an hour before sunset, when the clouds gradually cleared to reveal the freshly snow-capped peaks of the La Sals as a stunning backdrop for this iconic arch. I was grateful to get the golden light before sundown followed by pink glow on clouds as dusk set in.

It was a good day! Thanks for viewing.

Cheers,
Ross
