This new Sony version is by far the best overall I have ever shot. Super fast focus, sharp, full featured, and light. I also love the aperture ring that matches my other GM lenses.
So far, nothing but praise for this lens.
How does the physical size compare to the Tamron 70-180? Very tempted by this lens but love the size:quality of the Tamron
Judging by the more extended focal length range, the Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 is physically slightly larger and heavier. I do not have nor have I handled the Tamron zoom lens but I understood that the length of the lens extends as you zoom while the new Sony lens has an internal focusing mechanism. And as such the length remains the same regardless at the FL setting.
