Not only is there a dedicated "tripod police" presence in almost all churches, it is a real tripping hazard in many. With high iso cameras and PP software tripods have lost a lot of their utility.
Carrying a camera helps me to see my surroundings up to a point where the hardware becomes a distraction.
Between the crowds and security involved in entering attractions, Rome has become a lot less fun for me.
