Z9 + 500 PF will be a dream combo. And there is the 200-600 to come.

They are pleasing specs. But nothing that innovates...just keeping up.
Unless the body design comes out different than the one spotted in Tokyo, it won't be a body on my radar anytime soon. And there is a lot of things Nikon has to do with the FW/customization to make this a worthwhile investment to me.
But the biggest issue for me is the lack of lenses. Yes I'd be happy to use my 500PF but I'm not spending $9K CAD to shoot my 500PF. And I'm not going to buy an overweight 600 FL (which only matches the 600II I bought in 2012). So unless there is a 600S available the Z9 remains a no buy.
So you are underwhelmed by the A1 I presume? It's not like these cameras are a dime a dozen. And you have no idea about EVF quality, AF, battery life, 8K options. There's only so much you can do. What else should they have done other than a global shutter?
Also Nikon has already shown the lens roadmap, 400 f/2.8 and 600 f/4 Z S are coming, do you really think they will be same weight as FL versions?
Are you just putting words in my mouth now? "underwhelms"? I said "pleasing specs" and I said "nothing ground breaking" "what will make people happy" in relation to the specs. Where you got underwhelmed out of those three statements is beyond me.
The A1 had some groundbreaking specs like 1/240s read speeds, ES flash sync, 120 AF/s, 9,44M dot EVF with 240Hz refresh option and 50x30.
The R5 had 45x20 and BEAF also groundbreaking for when it was released.
So no I'm not underwhelmed by the A1 (or R5) and I'm not underwhelmed by the Z9. As I said, I don't see anything new in these specs. Do you see something in them I'm missing? Shooting 6MP jpegs at 120/s is different but I'd never use it...especially if they are video frame grabs.
So far I see 5.75M EVF, 120Hz, 45x30....that is all behind...it is all perfectly acceptable and enough for me to buy if other specs fell into place but still behind.
All I said about the 600S is it needs to be available...like I can order it from my dealer and he can give me a delivery estimate (like 2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months). I'm not spending $9K to shoot my 500PF.
Anyways, my biggest hesitation about the Z9, even if it matched every spec on the A1/R5/R3, are the haptics which includes the lack of a 3rd wheel and the lack of more back buttons I can program to do alternative focus modes. Also if it just repurposes the look and options of the AF modes from the current Z cameras. I just don't like the modes available in them, how they look on screen, and their behaviour. Nikon needs to take the DSLR options and port them directly to the Z9 and then back them up with superior stacked sensor PDAF. If they do that then we are getting somewhere. Get Group over there and make it D6 customizable.
