Hmm I think I was overly optimistic about the update or AF-S is simply still more precise. I've taken some comparison shots and AF-S is still on point, while AF-C varies, but maybe the variation is lower...
1 AF-S, 3 AF-C, I guess you can tell which is which .
Edit: and eyeAF, all AF-C this time, 0.4m focus distance if EXIF is to be believed, not that bad imho as that's at 1000ISO:
Edit#2: and one more, again AF-S, followed by a couple AF-C shots, 0.4m focus distance...
Edit#3: and this is 50 ZA @f2.5 (though I should have used 24-70@45mm) in a similar shot:
