This issue is answered in this review, about 4 min in and forward. Net/net: the Sony is actually doing better in this regard.
So let me see: the Sony 50/1.2 GM is 200 grams lighter, faster AF + internal focus, 72mm filter size, more compact, has less vignetting, better handling by being thinner at the base, and all this while being $300 cheaper?!
