I consider this as a serious contender (despite its high price tag) considering that it is only as heavy and big as the 50mm f1.4 planar (only slightly fatter). I guess the main question for most is how much of advantage it offers against the already spectacular Zeiss planar to justify the price difference. I am not personally concerned about the AF speed nor about the extra half stop light. If I sell my used planar, I have to add about C$1400 to get this lens. I doubt for me personally, the extra cost is justified. I may however wait until the they start showing up in the used market in a year or two. Then I will go ahead and get one. Or by then, Sigma may also have released a lighter and smaller yet excellent 50mm f1.4 lens at a lower price. That's what I like about the Sony system having many lens options to choose from.
