Great shot! What legs are you shooting with that are 5lbs?! Is this just wind you're talking about or waves when you say adverse conditions?
I had thought of selling off my RRS TVC-24L legs and just moving full time to my Feisol travel tripod (CT-3441) but now I'm second guessing that. I've shot quite a bit with the 12-24 so far, but haven't really used it on my tripods yet.
Thanks for the comment. I followed an FM link to this website and happened to see the Gitzo GT4533LS on sale at a local store at a price too good to pass up.
It's both wind and water vibrations that I'm trying to minimise. I had previously used a Feisol set of legs myself (3 section) that I thought were pretty decent, but I was noticing some vibration in live view at max magnification with the GM, even with only moderate wind.
On the website, the Feisol scored under 1000Nm in terms of stiffness, so I decided I wanted something that was at least 2-3 times stiffer. When I compared the Gitzo and Feisol side by side in a 'tap the legs' test, it was night and day.
Ah, thanks! And are you using the same ballhead then? I'm curious if perhaps part of your vibration was due to the ballhead stiffness? Would you mind sharing which ballhead you were using previously? They're ranked on teh same site, though I'm guessing you knew that as well - https://thecentercolumn.com/head-rankings/ball-head-rankings/
For now, I'm still using the same ballhead (Kirk BH-3). It wasn't the problem because the same head on the Gitzo performed much better than on the Feisol. The head looks to be rated at 2440 Nm on the webisght, which is much better than my Feisol legs (under 1000Nm).
But it's had a pretty hard life with me over the last 10 years, so it's due for replacement anyway. I'll take a good look at that table you linked to. Thanks.
