I read the thread which talks about powering directly from PD and bought a PD big enough with that in mind that as far as i can tell runs the camera and charges battery at same time.
My thinking now is to carry enough batteries to get through the day and solely charge at night when 110 available. Since I've got two bodies, that means 4 to 6 batteries. Two standard canon chargers work so when I get up at night to pee, I put in another set of batteries. Did it in africa by charging every time in camp, lunch, dinner, sleeping. It somewhat depends on whether you have 24hr 110. I've been places where you have no 110 (horse trips to wind river for example, raft grand canyon, grand stair case escalante drop camp) or for short periods (couple of hours), africa and yurt camp in Yellowstone. Short periods push for being able to charge multiple batteries at once. Horse trip or raft grand canyon, enough batteries to last whole trip. PD may be helpful for this for no 110 trips. Looked at solar and I'd rather just carry enough batteries.
