I would like an a6600 viewfinder also. The pop up might be a mistake by Sony, or let's hope a misreport. I don't know why the pop-up would take any less internal space than the a6600 viewfinder.
But I do find myself using the read lcd to focus more and more, especially with tracking AF. It seems to help me with adjustments to composition.
Also, I think phone cameras have made using the lcd screen more and more of a default mode for many people.
