I looked at the 300PF specs yesterday, hoping to see that it had a 77mm filter. Sure enough. This Canon 500D has been a great tool for getting closer to bees/butterflies and such. Super sharp.
Hope I don't get rebuked, for posting just once on this thread, 2 images *not* taken with the 300PF. Trying to imagine, just how nice a close-up lens, this *lightweight* 300PF would be, with the Canon 500D on the front of it. The Canon 500D case, is very small to carry in a pocket, during an outing with the 300PF, and it's easier to install than a tube. I give it a ten.
Will be looking for more of your wildlife images with this exciting 300PF lens!
300PF sure looks like a great lens for dragonflies and butterflies. I don't have a Nikon (yet) but this lens got me very interested in buying one. Even more so as Canon has no recent 200-400mm lenses that do well for macro/closeup and that are reasonably light/compact (so that they can also be used for in-flight shots or subjects in very difficult positions).
Canon 500D is a very nice diopter indeed, other quality options are the Nikon 5T/6T (if you can find them on the used market) and Marumi. I don't think I would need one though with the 300PF, especially if you also have the 1.4TC. But if you carry just one lens that diopter would be nice to have just in case.
