You won't be disappointed with the 50/1.7.It is the sharpest and contrastiest lens of the C/Y lineup between f4 and f8.Planar 50/1.4 has smoother oof blurr and it's a tad faster/better built.Anyways - horses for courses.

Thanks! The reviews I read before buying said that the f/1.7 is a little better. That it's also smaller and cheaper doesn't hurt. Of course, afterwards I have read reviews claiming that the f/1.4 is better and has smoother bokeh..! Oh well, what's done is done. I'll use it for a while and we'll see. Eventually I may replace it with a 35/1.4 of some kind (maybe not too long into the future... ).
