You won\'t be disappointed with the 50/1.7.It is the sharpest and contrastiest lens of the C/Y lineup between f4 and f8.Planar 50/1.4 has smoother oof blurr and it\'s a tad faster/better built.Anyways - horses for courses.

Got myself a C/Y 50mm/1.7 Planar yesterday and went for a short walk to try it out. First impression is positive, but I didn\'t really get along with 50mm when I had one a few years ago, so we\'ll see how it goes.
wonderful shots Helena! what made you choose the f/1.7 over the f/1.4 out of curiousity?
a random family shot with the rokkor 24/2.8:

Cute!
Thanks! The reviews I read before buying said that the f/1.7 is a little better. That it\'s also smaller and cheaper doesn\'t hurt. Of course, afterwards I have read reviews claiming that the f/1.4 is better and has smoother bokeh..! Oh well, what\'s done is done. I\'ll use it for a while and we\'ll see. Eventually I may replace it with a 35/1.4 of some kind (maybe not too long into the future... ).
