the Nikon F (circa 1968ish) also does not mount to a inner frame so i would venture to say that the F3 follows form and does not either. due to its cover design it doe mount to a 4 (straight slot too not Philips type) screw base plate/cover under the film bay cover. looks can be deceiving.
