I decided to use my A7R to shoot a live dance concert in order to test the continuous auto-focus. Obviously this is an environment in which I would not expect the A7R to excel. I could not fire the shutter as fast as I would have liked, and the small wait while the EVF resets itself is a bit annoying. But for me, at least, the experience was not as bad as I was anticipating.
All these were shot with the Sony/Zeiss 24-70. I found that, when changing the zoom, sometimes the lens would start to hunt and I\'d have to wait for AF to be reestablished. So with certain regularity I was getting out of focus images. However, to my surprise, the continuous AF worked really well and (except when changing zoom) I was getting in focus shots almost all the time.
The lighting was horrible in this venue. I shot shutter priority, 320th of a second, ISO 1600. Some of these were cropped quite a bit. Vignetting is mine.
