The \'snapped\' image has replaced the \'created\' image for much of the consumer base. Many; and it\'s growing, are fine and happy with a \'Facebook\' \'instamatic\' type image. All the nuances of image are being replaced by the unlimited DOF, quick snap. Few print anymore, at least not large, most look at an LCD, low-res at that and they don\'t give a flock about image quality, it\'s just about capturing a moment, moving on to lunch at fastfood junk feed and another snap of family quick fun.
Other than the few that inhabit FM and a few other sites like LuLa, even take their precious, shinny, DSLR toys out for a drive in manual, let alone know what manual mode is, really understand the potential loss to this \'ART\'.
Dare I even mention, the rants here on FM that can\'t bare the thought that an AF system isn\'t on-par with their perfectly working eyesight...manual focus, WTF, I shouldn\'t have to...geez, modern times...I\'ll never be happy, oh well.
Sorry guys n Gals we\'re not at the top of the food chain anymore, those great magazine cover photos, gallery sized prints are not the norm, thus those \'extra\' dollars spent for \'research\' into to best tech get smaller. And unless there\'s some huge breakthrough; far past what the Sony/Exmor design is producing, I don\'t see a ton of dollars getting spent on design for a \'few\' and ever diminishing few who care, know why they should.
Snappers are alive and well, their numbers are growing, so \'big\' business rolls on with their volume of purchase bottom line; happy wide smiles...smartphone, yes cheeper, DSLR expensive, why do I need one, it\'s just a picture.
A picture, it\'s worth a thousand words, is it really anymore...to the masses 
The A7 and A7r look really sweet IQ, DR and size wise, even the styling isn\'t so bad...it will be interesting so see just how good their imaging is, how far a few can push their limits 
Sorry photographers, we be Dinos...just not extinct yet, and we have a few buckarroos to still throw about...for the love of another, slowly dying art.
Forty five pages so far, and a good read at that
