Perhaps you are correct. However, as I look at the photo and system you added to this thread I can see a similar disadvantage to it. Your attachments are fabric and even if they are strong at the outset, as time goes on and they get used more and more may either need to be replaced or fail. Although the screw device on your strap looks larger it still just screws into either the tripod mount or L bracket the same way the Black Rapid does. It just seems to me you like your straps and I like mine and both of them could, at some point, fail. But as one member here remarked; \"that\'s what insurance is for\".
no not all that similar at all. looks vs function can be deceiving.
on the fabric used- yes over time things do wear and as someone pretty familiar with webbing and material types I\'m a pretty good judge of usability. I also do inspect my gear before usage every time. I will tell you that the webbing used in this particular is superior to the R product for wear. I had an R strap
the connection device allows 360 deg freedom of rotational movement on axis so there is no loading of the attachment bolt at all in any direction other then gravity. it is a machined component of aluminum alloy. it is not a piece of \"luggage hardware\" (that is the R straps biggest issue).
connection to the camera itself is a stainless bolt (backed by a rubber gasket into either the bracket or the camera tripod attach hole. in 35 years I have yet to manage to pull one out on any of the gear I\'ve owned. so essentially I can spin my camera around on this setup till hell freezes over or the bearing surface seizes which ever comes first. and I think i\'ll notice that well before it actually comes off. I have had this setup for 2 years now. use it almost daily.
