Ron, thanks for your input. This is also how I understand it, the compressed files are negligibly lossy, and shouldn\'t show any difference in normal use. I think I will stay with uncompressed unless I really have a good reason not to, like running out of cards or something like that.

As for your ZM 50, IMHO it is a deliberate choice by Zeiss even though they don\'t like to advertise it openly. Due to some little focus shift considerations, the lenses are designed to focus accurately at short distances WO, but if you focus at infinity WO, the lens does not mechanically reach infinity (but pretty close though). Once you stop down a couple of stops, the focus shift will bring it in focus. Note that at smaller apertures, it\'s not DOF that covers the difference. There is a real shift that happens that brings the exact plane of focus at infinity. I realized that while playing with the GXR at full magnification. You can actually see the focus plane moving as you change the aperture.
