On paper the 1DX looks like the best all around choice if it ever is released, but 7k vs 4k is it that big of a difference.

For 2.5 times the price, I\'d expect at least twice the IQ at ANY ISO, not just the high ones... which, of course, the 1DX will not deliver over the 5D3 (or 2 for that matter) -- comparing those two tools on IQ is not fair since IQ is not the reason to buy a 1DX over a 5D3.
Unless you\'re shooting weddings outdoors in Afghanistan during a firefight, the 5D3 will do you nicely and leave a very decent amount of dough in your pocket.
