unimpressed by my new G28 | |

Very nice results. What\'s exactly wrong with the G lens?
I own the G45 as well and i expected the G28 to perform nearly as well, meaning good resolution across the frame at all apertures, perfect images stopped down one stop.

One final note: I don\'t know how long your experience with alt lenses is, but I get the impression that maybe you expected near perfection from your new Zeiss lens. I\'ve gone through a phase where I was questioning the qualities of my best lenses and found small flaws when pixel peeping, which overshadowed my appreciation of the main strengths of those lenses. I guess it\'s just something one goes through when learning the technical capabilities of lenses, but I have adjusted my expectations to a somewhat more realistic level.
I think i have some experience, though usually with lenses of longer focal lenght, and my G45 was the benchmark.

The G28 looks good to me, too. Were these shots Cornerfix\'ed? and taken with 5N, right?
I tried to understand the G28 field curvature photos, but got confused by the labels. What are you seeing, there?
No Cornerfix, taken with the 5n.
i forgot to link to the picture focused at the center of the image.
G28 f/2.8 focused at the center of the image | G28 f/2.8 focused at the corner of the image
as you can see the corners are sharper in the second image (i didn\'t say sharp), the foreground is in focus but the center is totally out of focus, so there is some field curvature.

Phillip, I\'ll be the first to go out on a limb and say that your copy of the G28 seems *a little* weak. [...]
If you want a more telling comparison use an area off center, maybe 2/3 of the way out toward an edge. The kit lens resolves the center very well (especially at 24-28mm), but drops off fairly quickly.
edit: Just saw that you did test mid frame. I dunno, it seems like the G28 should be noticeably better, which to my eye it\'s not.
Hmm, thats exactly what i expected, good corners. Are there any other owners of the lens who can confirm that their G28s are better than mine?
I don\'t see that my kit drops off much in the range from 24-28mm, at 28mm only the last 300px or 10% seem to be unsharp, @24mm i don\'t see a real falloff at all Sony E 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 @24mm f/8

I will wait for the reports of other users how well their G28 performs at infinity and learn to know the lens better until then, i took the lens for a walk and like what i see so far:
