The G lens used to be Minolta\'s highest end line that were usually the fastest lens in their focal length with circular apertures, AD and aspheric glass, metal build, internal focus, etc. A lot of those features are in standard lens lines, now, and it seems that Sony saves the G designation for complex zooms, and the Zeiss designation for high end primes. The only Sony primes with a G designation are left over Minolta designs.
Affordable lens lines have gotten very good and already have AD elements, circular apertures, etc., so it seems that we\'re mostly just missing the speed and build quality in non-G primes. A NEX version of the SAM 35/1.8 would likely be very good.
