Canon winter


This little Bufflehead duck (a drake and a hen) is a winter visitor in our parts. In early spring they move further up north to their breeding grounds.
Pay attention to the drake\'s bill. That is its true colour. If you see it pink or beige on a picture, that would mean that excessive photoshopping has gone awry. The head plumage irridescence is not easy to photograph because it depends on the sunlight incidence angle as well as intensity. Much of the time those dark head feathers appear near-black.
