I borrowed a friends Canon 50D and 70-200L IS as well, and I should have just used the M9 for everything, it absolutely blows the Canon out of the park even at base ISO and comparable apertures.
I guess I was using a Prime (30 year old Nikkor 105/2.5) but the 70-200L just looks like mush. The AF on the 50D missed more shots than I did manual focusing my Nikkor. Base ISO is also super noisy on the 50D (worse than the M9 at ISO400 or so).
The 50D did come through in one area - framerate. And unfortunately that was a feature I did need for this shoot.
