Vendors have access to the same types of weddings consistently. I don't necessarily know if there are any additional "right" people at any given wedding. Just because a girl is having a certain type of wedding doesn't mean her friends are having that type of wedding too. But I know those vendors are working that type of wedding again next week.
Also, I've found that the clients I want to work with don't ask friends for referrals. Like I said, I've booked best friends who didn't know I was shooting both their weddings.
It is all about knowing who your target people are, how they are searching for their vendors, and what motivates them. This is going to be different for everyone.

Exactly... for us, WOM means that the images were seen and the potential client was attracted to what they saw. We want people who care about "story telling" and not portrait work. That's the purposed move we started making in 2011.

I'm going to guess it's all about predictability and consistency. I'm assuming that the venues that
he shoots in attract very similar clients, at similar budgets with similar values. Which can make
for a really predictable and reliable business projection.
but I could be wrong
**edit** annnnndddddd I just saw that TRR already answered your questions. 'doh.
