I've had the 200/2G VRII for a few months but I guess I was a little intimidated by its size and weight. Anyways, I just started using it. A couple of recent shots with the D3s:

^great shots, Donald, I enjoy all your contributions and your particular style

I'm getting used to my new VR1 - the detail and sharpness it's capable of puts everything else I've owned to complete shame.

I do think they could have designed the focus ring better somehow - it's so fat and sensitive and easy to bump out of focus immediately after you've AF'd on a subject, since it's sort of on a natural resting point for your hand

Hey you lucky folks with the chub lens, I was wondering if someone could post a picture of it side by side with other lenses like 70-200 or 24-70 (or just something more 'mainstream' that I could compare it with)

Another shot from the Carnival in Venice the other day. BTW, I also had many people stop and ask what kind of lens I was carrying...chubby attracts a lot of attention!

LL Like the last one. It's not technically perfect but the look is natural with a very nice feeling. Well done

Thank you very much. I'm sure of only one thing and that is I have never taken a technically perfect photo and I hope never to if it means losing the feel/mood. Much like your comment about postcard like in the other thread

if you do not need the fast focus, the 180/2.8 is a far less expensive and excellent alternative.

If you still want F2, then the 135 F2 DC or 105 F2 DC are excellent alternatives.

I'm sorry I wasn't quite clear on my comparison request. Could I get one of a top down view, side by side of the 200 f2 versus a 70-200 or 24-70? I would like to see how long and wide the difference is so if the lens could be flat on its side and the shot be taken from top down that would be awesome. Also, no hoods =)

Really appreciated if ya guys do. I'm thinking of selling a lot of lenses to get the chubmeister but want to see if I could hand hold it easily.

Hand holding is not a problem. I'm 6"3" and all of 165# Now carrying it around all day is a bit different.

Handholding is not really a problem short duration, but my comparison photo makes these lenses look really similar in size. The 200/2 is worlds heavier - it's the only lens I own where I have to be careful to grip the lens at all times and never the camera grip, otherwise I might damage the camera from the torque.

It's pure torture looking at images from this lens. Why anyone would upgrade or buy another camera is beyond me, this lens please before I die
