Does the Contax G with converter manual focus feel as good as a Contax C/Y lens? I really like how smooth and solid manual focus is on the Contax C/Y and wondering if the converter gives the same feel.

No, you will not get the same feel as a C/Y lens. The NEX to Contax G adapters are a decent and affordable way to use the great Contax G lenses, but don't offer the same smooth focusing action. The main advantage of Contax G on NEX is the compactness. Have you seen how much length a C/Y adapter for NEX adds to the package?

Also, any Contax C/Y lenses that really sing on the NEX-5n? I need something wide and something tele. I don't know about normal lenses right now, might wait a bit.

Is the optics practically the same between C/Y and G? The only difference is size and price, right?

Any of the Contax C/Y should perform fine. There aren't really any duds among them. The Contax G lenses are at least as good but have different designs (with the rear lens much closer to the film plane). The G wideangles (21, 28mm) may perform a bit worse in the corners than C/Y counterparts will (the Contax G 21 still has color shift issues on the 5N).

Paul....that lens I am very curious about with the NEX-5N. Do you get infinity? Is there anything special that you need to do to use this lens on the NEX-5N? Are you using a converted Canon one or are you using a Minolta - E mount adapter?

I am using $20 MD to Nex adapter, nothing special.
My 58/1.2 is not converted one.

As far as getting infinity issue, let me try to take few pictures today, and will post here.

JIm,
It seems that infinity is not achieved at 1.2...
At about f/11, this is what it looks like at 100% crop. (First Pic)

No PP....

Also, as I open up the lens a little, like f/8, and f/5.6, the focus on infinity is achieved before the lens gets to the infinity mark.

I think the thickness of the adapter might have something to do with this.

paul, are you sure your not focusing past infinity? getting infinity with the rokkor 58/1.2 should be no problem on the NEX with an adapter (unless they really screwed up on the adapter). most focus past infinity (mine included), so i would have to use focus magnify to determine when i was really focused on infinity. you can always shim the adapter to get a real infinity stop if the normal infinity stop is past infinity.

most makers of adapters make their adapters thinner than they should be. this means the lenses will focus past infinity at the infinity stop. in order to get infinity on your rokkor put the camera on a tripod and point it at something 300 meters or further away. go to the maximum liveview magnification (15x on the 5N?) and focus the lens at f/1.2 on the distant object until you get it as sharp as you can (this will probably be around 10m point on the lenses focus scale). this is the lenses actual infinity focus with the adapter. you can mark it by putting a mark on the lens itself or some tape placed over the focus scale.
