That was experimenting with the a6500+1.4TC+100400, but I didn't stop there.
I didn't think it was possible but I replaced the 1.4 with the 2.0TC and went back out....not
enjoyable because it is super bitter cold lately. Imagine my surprise to see complete AF-C
with the 2.0TC. What? I went out thinking MF would the only way.
Nothing flying but the song birds but I did put the a6500 in Zone with the 2.0 and the 100-400
and found all those beautiful little green dancing squares---again I'm shocked, even the a7Riii
can't do this I'm told.
Well I'm going out again today with the 2.0 combo to see if I was dreaming yesterday
OK, again braving the cold cold morning experimenting with
a6500 + 2.0TC + FE100400GM
It's not bad. It does focus hunt somewhat but it is usable.
I was in a blind and completely filling the frame, bierds no more than
20 feet away. Effective 1200mm will be nice in some situations.
After playing for almost two hours (did I mention is is cold) I don't think I'd want to use this
combo for BIF but I think it can be done; it would probably be like the RX10iv with AF not happening
when zooming any at all.
Robert, mighty impressive combo with 2x TC. Very encouraging. Also your tolerance for bitter cold in the blind (we are having a heat wave here in the SF Bay Area)
By the way, our nationally famous Russian River Pliny the Younger triple IPA beer is drawing crowds from all over the country and even overseas. Only available for a two week span.
