Bought a Leica Macro-Elmarit-R 60/2.8 with extension tube over the weekend, which arrived today. What a lens! But, I forgot - since it was some years ago since I shot macro - that you shouldn't go out shooting macro on a windy day
wow... just downloaded the new firmware to my NEX-5. the peaking feature just rules! i loved the NEX with my C/Y 50mm 1.7 but now it's just awesome, especially when shooting video!

They have to love those shots Katie, great work
Thanks! I haven't even shown them yet ... just uploaded the gallery online. You're my first comment! Glad you think they are worthy. My first "REAL" shoot using the NEX. Never thought I would do it... it worked well, though. Peaking really helped with the manual focus of the Rokkors.
Thanks! Same here - I remember that show like it was last week. It was fun to see them, even though they look old. I, of course, just get better every year!
That was my first shoot with the "peaking" feature. Man, does that make MF a breeze! Of course it's not ultra precision, but for this kind of shooting it was just what I needed! It's a great feature addition.

Well you nailed the focus, that's for sure and held the camera steady too. Very few 180-200s can keep up with that lens.
great shots everyone, glad to see things picking up on this thread again.
katie – really like that second one in particular.
morfeus – i think i prefer the porche shot to the beetle both in focus and oof portions.
kahren – what do you think of the pen 40/1.4? i've always been curious having tried the 38mm and 42mm if that lens might combine the strong points of each.
Guys, I must be doing something wrong with focus peking. I have set mine to "medium" and "red". When I use it, I typically get an indication that something is in focus, but, when I check with the loupe, it is not, and I adjust focus. At which point, the peaking only serves as a rough indicator before I need to refine focus with the loupe, which means peaking isn't helping much if at all. Where am I missing things?
peaking is very reliable for me at medium to long distances even wide open. When focussing on very close objects it gives only a rough guidance and I use magnification whenever possible because DOF gets very thin the closer the subject is. Stopped down it is again very reliable and there is no need to magnify.
As it happens, yes, Heinz; I have been doing flower shots lately, including with longer lenses (50mm, 90mm and 180mm). That is where I found peaking less-than-helpful. Let me try longer distances as per your excellent suggestion. Thanks!
Well, this is a situation where no peaking in the world will help, even the best viewfinder will not. I just had to go to the postoffice and took the Nex an my new Macro-Elmar-R with me because there is a nice park with flowers besides the postoffice. Obviously I was attempting to shoot hand hold at close distances (useless). With magnification switched on I could see the peaking red moving on 1mm objects going back and forth, just because I could not hold the camera still enough. Even f/11 does not help too much, the DOF is just so extremely thin at those distances. This is simply tripod and liveview territory, whatever camera you use.
