Adam - Can you share some more info with us? For example were these shot as jpegs or as raw and then converted
Also were you shooting the lens wide open? or were you stopped down a bit.The images look sharp if it is wide open. They are a bit overexposed but not too much. Were you shooting with any kind of filters on the lens? etc.

Yes, it was wide open. No filters. Shot as raw, converted to DNG (can't open raw in LR3), and converted to JPG, no corrections. By increasing clarity and luminance and pulling back on saturation I was able to slightly soften the glow, but I didn't post those here, and it's still bad.

i've seen a similar effect though to a lesser degree with mine shooting wide open when peoples faces are in direct sunlight. it's caused by spherical aberration and shouldn't be noticeable shooting in the shade or stopped down to f/2. i noticed it a bit more with my thoriated copy of the rokkor than my unthoriated copy.
Yes, it was practically gone at f/2. I have one shot from that outing where I shot a face in the shade wide open and didn't have that problem. Good to know that this occurs just in those situations. Mine's thoriated. Maybe the effect is diminished if I set my lens out in the light to remove the yellowing...

You have some harsh contrast there but it still look unacceptable to me while I would say possible overexposure (/harsh contrast) could be part of it. I regularly underexpose slightly both on the NEX and 5D2 with fast manual lenses and would suggest you try it to remove the haze - especially when harsh contrast is there. I cant find a similar shot but this should at least be at similar distance. Wideopen, old version:
I have a couple that were less overexposed and the effect is still there but lessened somewhat. Good idea, I should either stop down or under expose.

For f1.2 at that distance I think those images are pretty good. I'd stop down to f2.8 at least if I'm that far away from the subject.
Well, to increase DoF and sharpness to a sensible level in order to get the desired result at that distance. The typical f1.2 glow may be desirable at close distances, but as your photos show, not very successfull from several meters away.
BA-photos: Fantastic shot.
Jim: I like the way you see things, always interesting.
sculptormic: Great composition in the lighthouse pic.
I finally decided to stay with NEX and got myself the EVF for my 5n. While I was at the photo store anyway I picked up the Sigma 19 too. Saw no reason not to, TBH. Added it to the 30 I already have. Ridiculous value, both of them. Only got to try it out on my way to see friends today and these are probably not much use for IQ evaluation purposes, but I haven't posted in a good while, so here goes. All from the Stockholm subway.
Tray it again in a different lighting situation and it will be ok
I also have a nikon f1.2 and I also get that effect sometimes
wide open at 1.2 you can get lots of light bouncing around inside and you end up
with soft images, but there is nothing wrong with the lens
1.2 lenses wide open are very "touchy"...
Over in the Rokkor conversion thread someone mentioned that if the rear element was put in backwards, this sort of thing would happen. Is it possible that this is the case here?
