Is it at least better than dedicated AF lenses? (which these are of course but I would think the adapter helps in this regard) I'm thinking about getting a C/Y 50/1.4 but I've sort of dreamed of getting one of Zeiss's 28mm offerings and the 28/2.8 G could be in reach for me. I'm just worried about the buyers remorse when I find the focusing action isn't for me.
I currently own a Minolta 28/2.8 Rokkor-X which I got for $30. It produces nice colors but it renders no where near my former C/Y 50/1.7 as far as fine detail and contrast which I loved from it....Show more →
yeah, it's definitely better than an AF lens.
i'm still planning on sticking mine in a decent manual focus helicoid for the smoother action, correct direction, and closer focus.

I would not say it's definitely better. It has a little better damping than most AF lenses (with my cheapo no name adapter anyway), but at least early on, it definitely has more of a tendency to stick during spots of the focus travel. That's subsided some with use, but I have some AF lenses which actually focus quite nicely on manual (my Minolta 85 1.4G comes to mind).
Still, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the G28 for the NEX-5n.

Some from a recent Berlin visit. I was kind of hoping for the opportunity to shoot with our Berliner fellows, but they decided to go to Dresden!! Anyway, I hope you enjoy them,
Thanks for posting, a lot of inspiration at the last pages. Here a couple of shots some days ago. First two with CV 40, last two with the FDn 24/2. I think all four at f4.
