Sometimes point and shoot is all you need for photos primarily taken for their memorial value and when being more serious about getting the shot is just silly. Auto-pano.

cool, i'm curious to see more with the 35 lux, have always been curious about that lens. are you still looking for something better than your canon ltm 35/2?
Well, Monday starts the road trip to Aptos, so I'm sure I'll be able to oblige.
I'm not certain this will replace the ltm 35/2. The Canon's tonally flat color translates into simple but beautiful B&W conversions. The lux is a far more capable color lens, more capable in general, really, and the B&W conversions from it are rewarding in their own way, but sometimes simpler is better. So the lux may end up replacing my desire for the 50 'lux instead of actually replacing the Canon.
Bob - how are you getting along with your NEX-7? Any regrets?
I'm really enjoying the camera. I have to say, having some decent AF capable lenses like the Sigmas is a big plus. Add a tiltable LCD and I can shoot street from the hip. I'm still working on my settings. I also purchased the Jim Buchanan grip for the NEX-7. Two benefits for me are 1) the camera feels more natural in my hand and two, mounting on my Benro tripod is much easier. The grip gives a bit more separation between lenses and tripod mount. I highly recommend it.
While shooting street is fun, my alt glass really shines on this camera. Even my Zeiss ZE's with the metabones smart adapter feel much more usable on the NEX-7 versus the 5N, at least to me. This is the difference in camera size where the 7 just feels better with a lens like the 100MP+smart adapter than the 5N. This is obviously subjective.
I'm still getting used to all the customization offered by the 7 and sometimes I hesitate because I have to think which of the customized controls I want to change. Overall, I can see why some like Philippe feel they can trade in their DSLRs for the NEX-7. I'm not quite there yet but maybe a FF NEX will send me over the top.
@Kevin, Michael, Charlie, Bob - thanks for taking the time to comment... and Charlie, good to see you around. Still have that massive lens lineup, or is this post-liquidation?
@mnscott - beautiful colors on a gray day.
@allofthelights - awesome London pano! Was that done with the in-camera feature?
Nice work Jacob! I have to be honest - I haven't seen too many other images with the CV40 which look as good as yours. Well done. PS - are you using SEP for the conversion?

Gary, Thank you. I think the Nokton 40 is an overlooked lens - or maybe that it just pairs well with the 5N. I find that the rendering has a lot of depth to it with this lens. I try to play to that in the processing also.
I've recently started using SEFX 2 to process B&W images. It's fast and can produce nice results. I still think PS is king, but the process I use there is very tedious in comparison.

it is the photographer! I hold my opinion that 95% contribution of good photo is the one who take the photo. less than 5% is the lens
Bob - Nice set.You are liking shooting from the hip i can tell.I used the 5N with the tilt screen in NYC with MF lenses and had great success with it even shooting WO was pretty easy.

You're absolutely right Jim. I've been most comfortable using AF shooting people and the tilt screen has been awesome. I'll have to try some MF sometime as well. Thanks.
