You need to be at least an hour away(60-100mi) from any city/town to have any chance of getting decent shots, even then where I live it's not far enough, I can barely see the Milkyway.

Haven't had enough time with my Nex-7, but i have a feeling that i won't keep it. Controls are nice, the evf is okay but i have to use cornerfix with some lenses, pushability of the files seems to be a bit worse and it is a bit too big for may taste. We'll see.
here is a link to the 24mp file of that last shot.
Useless to say Phillip, always amazing shots. Wonderful flickr portfolio as well.
Hmm, I dont get Snapseed. When I export a done image from Snapseed (originally a NEX 5N raw file - ARW) I get a filesize of 1615 pixels longest end. Yet your largest version in the link above is 2048. I can find no option to keep the original size. I think I read somewhere that largest filesize (RAW) supported is 20MP+, and obviously a RAW (ARW) file from the NEX 5N is much smaller than that.
Could you elaborate on your workflow?
(got the camera connection kit today, imported some RAWs directly to the iPad)
jonrock, this is at yosemite national park. As LightShow said, it is far away from the city area. Even then the milky way was relatively faint and a bit of processing was required to bring it out.

Snapseed downsizes the images, max image size varies depending on your hardware.
Hmm, could it be that it uses the embedded JPG in the RAW file as I am shooting only RAW? I've read in some short reviews now that "Snapseed doesnt reduce image size". But it does if you shoot RAW if there are no setting around that I've missed.
I imported RAW directly via the iPad Camera connection kit to "photo album". Then loaded it into Snapseed. And then exported via 1) Flickr and also tried 2) email. Same size, 1616 px on longest end.

But that's odd as I have the iPad 3. SirJons image on Flickr is 2048 wide, mine came out 1616,
Both of you are right.
Snapseed downsize the files. The size is depending on hardware and you can get the max. output w iPad 3 but,
this is related to jpg only as far as I know. Mine 2048 are jpgs. max output of arw are 1600 for me too (sorry not checked before) w iPad 1.

Ok thanks. That solves the puzzle. I think it's reasonably safe to say that Snapseed then use the embedded JPG if you shoot RAW. Unfortunately. Then we need a RAW developer for things like highlight recovery and lifting of shadows. I tried the free version of PhotoRAW but those actions are not very convincing in that software, but it is (unfortunately) not easy to check as it doesn't allow you to save the file. There is one alternative to PhotoRAW but I not yet received any feedback on this one:
50 1.8 E, pentax 110, zeiss 25mm ZF on lensbaby T/S, all jpgs sooc
Thanks for the excellent shots so far, you guys are an inspiration to me, and the dedication you show to the platform makes this a place of high quality shots all the time.
