Currently, the Sony 16 sounds like the one to go with. The new 24mm 1.7 is a bit to long (36mm). I also don't need 1.7. (I would even prefer a concept of fixed aperture like the Hologon 16.)
BTW, I forgot about the offset microlens on Leica. Thanks for reminding me.
I saw sample pictures of the voigtlander 21 and 25 on the Epson R-D. Not for me.
millsart: The ZM 21 4.5 would have been great. I am a bit surprised to hear that the 16 is as good as ZM 21 4.5. But you are right about the Sony 16. I will be using these lenses with pan focusing, so I won't be able to take full advantage of absolute sharpness anyway. For the lens adapters (18mm equivalent and the fisheye), I think I will wait for the Samyang.
What does something like that cost? I wanted to use the NEX with my gigapan and was thinking of trying to mod an Ir release to a cable release so the gigapan could fire it but if the price is right a wired release on the camera would be better still
Go to this thread. Contact JayR (or may be Bomb420: the owner of Hypoxic). JayR is the one that supposedly has NEXs modified and ready to go. I also heard that Herbotronics offered this mod. But I see no such info on their site.
About IR, keep in mind that Bomb420 state: An IR shutter release mechanism can by hacked to allow for shutter release but in our test we only got maximum 1fps using this method.

Using the gigapan the 1fps wouldn't be a big issue really as it only can pan so fast, however a wired release to its trigger cable would probably be more reliable than IR for sure.
I wonder if using the wired release you can use bracketing ? As when set to IR release it disables that feature (typical sony dumbness)

NEX 5 (that arrived today) and my Rokkor 50 1.2 (that also arrived today - surprisingly attached to an XG1). Just excited to post something - nothin' fancy here...
All wide open at 1.2:
Slight LR adjustments (had to upgrade to trial LR3 from LR2 as RAW files weren't supported...)
Sebboh - so is that in camera panning or a stitch in photoshop? I sorta have a thing for panos ... in fact just commented on some xpan shots in the film thread. Love them! Great shot - so smooth. What software do you edit in, by the way?

it's a stitch in photoshop, i just selected all the photos in lightroom, exported to TIFF and told photoshop to merge them together (if i had the newer version of photoshop i could skip that export to TIFF step). it is shot handheld though, no tripod. the in camera stitching works well on more distant subjects (but you are stuck with jpegs), but struggles on something this close because swinging the camera around tends to exacerbate the parallax problem.

it does indeed. from the comparisons i've seen, it appears the nokton f/1.5 matches the lux asph for sharpness in the center of the frame even wide open. it's just towards the edges where the lux eats it for lunch.
my problem with the nokton and the vast majority of rangefinder lenses is the mfd. i want that extra foot and a half of close focus (i could probably live with the lux's mfd if i could get one for half list price ).
You could always frankenmodify an existing adapter into an extension tube + adapter.

then i lose infinity.
i keep meaning to look into what sort of helicoids i could buy though. it might be possible to make my own adapter with a second focus ring to push the lens into macro mode. i know it's doable with slr lenses, not sure if there is enough room to do something like that with an m39 lens without losing infinity.

Funny you should mention the helicoids as I was also looking the other day when I realized my old enlarger lenses were LTM. Found M42 helicoid adapters but not LTM.

i ran across those too, should probably ask the hawks_factory guy if he could make one. it looks like he has a NEX to m42 one that is only 4mm too long. it might be possible to pull out the m42 threads and put some m39 threads recessed a bit more in there.
