Up here it is also difficult to foresee the perfect weather/sky conditions beforehand, so it helps if there is a good location within an hour's drive/walk.

thanks! living in san francisco is great for this, i'm 15 min from a number of different types of great locations for landscape/nature, cityscape, street, or wildlife.

For the first one I used my small Benro C0180T tripod and the very nice RRS 5N specific plate. I usually hate tripods but this stuff is so light that I enjoy using it.
The second one was shot wide open and at ISO 800, pushed one stop in PP, which shows how capable this combo is.
