?? Other way around. The EVF for the 5N will not work on the 5.
I ask because a friend found an EVF in Miami for the 5 and I have the 5N. The price was US 170,00 or something , when I know the one for the 5N is 330,00 or so, I got scared and told him not to bring. Was I right?
Thanks, Herb. Your input is fantastic, since you're one of the few with access to this equipment right now. As I mentioned the other day, Bjorn Utpott has also found corner resolution differences between the 5N and 7 with the ZM 35/2, so I don't think many 35mm lenses are safe, either. link
I'd be interested to see a color shift test with both cameras and the ZM 24/1.8 (with lens auto correction turned off,) if you get a chance. I'm sure the shift is minimal, if there. Thanks!
My friends on a snowy day in Denver over the weekend with the 5N and ZM 50/1.5. It was about 15 degrees F, and I had no problems, although the EVF fogged up, making focusing a little more tricky than usual. If I remember correctly, this was at around f1.8 with a polarizer attached.
Thanks, Herb. Don't really see any shift to speak of with the ZA 24/1.8. Do we know whether the Sony lens correction tags are read by Lightroom, like with m4/3 cameras?

Douglasf13,
That is a very nice image in the snow. Would love to have some over here.
About the 35 mm. I can report that the Voigtländer Nokton 35 mm F/1.2 mk 2 is very clean and very sharp on the Nex 7. So absolutely safe. I will keep in mind the Zeiss 35 exception.

The vignette correction is recorded in the Raw data when you activate it in the camera.
The other corrections (distortion and CA) are only applied to jpeg on demand.
All these corrections I have "off" in my camera. So what you see is not with any software correction.

Thanks. I live in Los Angeles, so a few days in the snow was very nice over the weekend.
That makes sense about your 35/1.2, as it looks to be among the most telecentric 35mm rangefinder lenses out there. I've owned the CV 35/1.4, Contax G 35, ZM 35/2.8, MS Optical Perar 35/3.5 and the ZM 35/2, and the ZM 35/2 has the best corner performance on the 5N among those that I've owned...which doesn't sound good for those other lenses on the NEX-7. The only other 35mm M lenses that I'd guess might be ok on the NEX-7 at the edges is the Leicas, although I'm not certain.

Regarding Leica 35mm; I can report from an external source that the 35 Summilux is also clean and performing ok on the Nex 7. For wider lenses we have to use the Sony 24 or some top notch dslr primes.
But I am still happy with the Leica 18 or the Zeiss 25 in practice. My end product is an A3+ or A2 print and not a 100% crop on screen.
In an ideal situation the Nex 7 requires lenses that perform optimal at f/4. Further stopping down already introduces diffraction. Unfortunatley due to the fact that the rangefinder lenses are not matched to this sensor we have to stop them down to f/8 for best corners. Thereby introducing softness in the centre image. The Sony E ZA 24 can do it properly. However you will have to fight CA and flare in backlit situations.
Sounds encouraging about the Leica, and it doesn't surprise me with Leica's newer designs. In fact, if any M lens wider than 35mm works well on the NEX-7, I'd expect it to be one of the Leica's, since they've been using more and more retrofocal designs. Hopefully, we'll start seeing more pics show up with Leica lenses on the 7.
Since our wide RF lenses aren't doing so well on the NEX-7, I've tested my Pen-F 25mm f/4 half-frame lens. it's about the same size as a RF lens, and while it has some purple corner issues, it is pretty sharp and performs well overall (IMO).
First, here is a full frame shot (with sky) wide open (f/4):

Next, here is the Cornerfixed version (f/4). Note much of the difference is vignetting:

Here's the Cornerfixed center (f/4):

Here's the Cornerfixed upper right corner -- decently sharp (f/4):
Thanks, Shelt. It's likely that the corners with that PEN lens are a little better with the 5N at wider apertures, but it certainly doesn't mean that it makes the lens unusable on the 7. Looks ok at f4, although the right edges of those branches do look pretty soft.
Took the NEX to NewMex. I was too tired to get out of the truck, so these are from the window beanbag. Only got one really fiery cloud at sunset. I so wish the NEX would do better bracketing!
CY 35-70. 3 image stitch of the rock formation I was at.
Two image hand blend. Rock edges ended up with a titch of light bloom, which made blending iffy. Not seeing anything particular to the NEX IQ that is problematic, though.
