What do you guys suggest in the 135-150mm range for the nex? Preferably sized like the contax 90/2.8? Out of luck? I guess I can use the nikon 180mm 2.8, but it is _huge_ even on the nex-7. Are the canon ltm 135s any good? other rangefinder alternatives? Other suggestions?
I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but I just bought a Zuiko OM 135/3.5. I don't think you can get any smaller than that, except that the adapter adds to it a bit. I must say that from the initial few pics I took with it, wide open on my 5N, I find the sharpness to be as good as I have seen. Coupled with the fact that it cost me $65 on ebay, with caps and pouch.
Philippe, they look vey good. Though in general this kit lens did seem to me me to give very "digital " look when I tested it,and to be sift when opened, it seems that for certain kinds of photos, with intermediate aperture, it can deliver nice images.

Vallejo,
Please look some pages back in this thread. I did already a comparisson between these two optics on the Nex 5n. At optimum conditions both lenses are comparable regarding sharpness and contrast. However there are some differences. The Zeiss ZM has better hight contrast handling and it has the cooler Zeiss color seen in blues and greens.
The Sony/Zeiss 24 is a terrific performer when used close-up. There it shows really high detail resolution. It's mayor weakness is a lot of lateral chromatic abberration. Sometimes difficult to remove completely. It renders the color a bit warmer / more yellow.
Tiny branches against a bright sky are easily lost with the Sony.
For landscape I would prefer the ZM. For the rest I am happy with the Sony.
How this is on the Nex 7 I do not know yet. It will take some time to find this out.
Did some iso/detail testing on the nex-7 today, at iso 200 there is partial movement blur due to not using a tripod, sorry about that...
So, caveats:
1) handheld, so focus will not be 100 % similar, but it should be similar enough to give you an idea on noise/detail.
2) used my standard lightroom preset, so some clarity, sharpening and a slight curve is added, this will i suspect add some grain at all isos, have not used any noise reducing tools other than what lightroom loads per default.
3) that is it I think. If someone wants something specific from the nex-7, let me know.
tol1l1yboy- Love the tractor shot. What were the settings on this shot?
Herb- hanks for sharing .I agree that Leica 18 Super appears to be a stunning lens.
Also the 100% crop from the 25 ZM looks very good IMO so on the Nex that would make this lens a just a tad over 35mm equivalent.
apiel123 - I was really interested in seeing how the Samyang 14 would hold up, these samples look really good thanks for sharing.Only draw back is that it is a bigger lens. What mount are you using on it?

The LTM canon 135/3.5 is good and very cheap, but to be honest the 55210 is in the ballpark up to 150.
I have a bunch of 135s and a 150 pentax--but none are in the league of the nikon 180 AIS ED.
In the long run I may bite the bullet and get a telyt 135 APO, which is the highest performance 135 today--from what I read.
@ Herb TY so much for your longer shots--but can we have some links to full size (forgive me if I missed them)

I have wanted to try a set of those using my friend who does Civil War re-enactment as the subject. I'm intimidated by the idea, though.
Really like the lively bokeh going in that first image with the sign.
not really, i just shoot in rows or columns (all handheld as i'm allergic to tripods) and make sure to give decent amount of overlap between frames and to go well past the where i expect the final framing to end. both ps and hugin seem to do a pretty good job of automatically aligning everything, but often there is considerable perspective distortion that needs to be corrected. shooting close up objects is much more difficult than longer distances due parallax problems. i believe there is a fair bit of discussion of different peoples techniques in the pano-mania thread. my techniques is pretty lazy (and cheap) compared to some.
Herb,
you are putting up some good stuff with the Nex 7, nice to hear that the pixels can take a bit of a beating in PP.I gotta figure out how i am going to acquire one these Nex 7s
