the 1.8 black is 460 grams, so should be ok. The silver one above, well I'd shy away from a tripod I guess. It's pretty effective handheld in low light though, even at 1/30, I just point it and fill the buffer at 7fps. At least one is steady enough to use if the comp is good. Focus is the most critical wide open.
I do do landscapes alot in the spring and summer, but I have lighter lenses for the backcountry.
If it's a set up I'd take my tokina 90 at-x f/2.5, which is lighter and has a tripod mount on the adapter. It's hard to beat in sharpness or oof rendering.
However I do think I have seen some sort of tripod brace for the nex....Show more →
I'll have to figure out the same for my Rolleinar 135; too heavy for camera-mount tripod use.
Charles, how do you prefer working with longer fast lenses like the 75 cron, on your Leica with a rangefinder or on the NEX5 with the LCD ?
I prefer the rangefinder at times, as it feels faster and more accurate, at least with wider glass, but the LCD does let you really check the focus, but longest I've tried on my NEX is at 35mm Biogon, and at even 7x zoom, handshake makes it a little hard to see what I'm focusing on.
Obviously 75mm f2 with a rangefinder is tough as well (1.25x mag helps I'm sure) but at 7x or even 14x on the NEX, can you really hold it steady enough to judge the focus ?

how are you holding the camera? with the lcd flipped up and the camera resting against my body i have no trouble zooming and focusing up to about 135mm.
Finally got out with the NEX-5 today. It was 3 degrees F above zero here, so we headed to the local botanical conservatory. Kinda like changing seasons, if only for a couple of hours.
NEX-5 and Nikkor 180/2.8 Ai-S - Ok, so the sloth is not botanical. But he (she?) lives in a tree, so that counts.
Millsart and sebboh, I just hold the camera, roughly focus with the 75 to begin with, and fine tune if necessary. I use the lcd flipped up also. I don't worry about the vibration, so long as I have fixed focus point.
Millsart, now that I have spent a lot of time practicing with the RF on the M9, I much prefer this method of focusing both WA's and up to 90 FL's. At first, I did have a lot of difficulty and fun nailing focus, but it is now second nature.
I do like the technique with the lcd screen too. I don't think, it matters which camera, just what becomes second nature after becoming very familiar with the technique needed.
Sebboh, method works really well having tried it! I do find find with the M9, I have improved my technique for steadying the camera, as it has now allowed me to shoot consistently down to 1/12s with a 50 Lux, in low light.
Love the the 180 and 55 shots Scott, I found copies of those last fall. I've used the 55 a fair bit----soooo sharp. Not really had a chance to put the 180ED through it's paces.
The 55 is one of the great nikon values, as you know. SOme early ones have oily blades, but good ones often go for 75USD. Just a killer lens.
Thanks Uhoh7! You'll love the 180 on the NEX-5 - it's just a really fine match. The 180 is a new addition to my collection. It's extremely sharp, and I've even found it fairly easy to hand-hold, especially at waist level.
The 55 Micro-Nikkor on the other hand is one I've had for years. I got it in mint condition for 50 USD, and used it some at first. With film cameras, and later my D700, I always wanted something longer for macro. So it sat in a camera bag for years. It seems to work really well with the NEX-5 though. You're right, it is "soooo sharp". So it'll no doubt get a lot more use as the weather improves.
Last week I picked up a CV75/2.5 on eBay . Grabbed it for low price, didn't expect much based on a PZ review. Turned out I like the lens a lot. Sharp very natural looking shots.

I wouldn't form ANY expectations about a lens based on a PZ ( photozone.de ) review.
